WPEC-TV Channel 12 featured a special guest as it’s “Weekend Weather Kid” on Saturday – 9 year old Katherine Ann “Kate” Lewis. Katherine Ann is the daughter of Bill and Jennifer Lewis. Bill Lewis is a well-known figure at political and social events in Broward and around the state, and is frequently called upon to lend his expertise in political campaigns.
Kate is a former Sagemont School student, but now attends St. Helens Catholic School in Vero Beach. Few 9 year olds enjoy waking up early (much less on a Saturday), but Kate got up at 4 am to make the broadcast, which is a joy to watch.
True to Miss Lewis’ predictions, the weather for the weekend was indeed very rainy, even resulting in some local flooding, and Kate’s assessment of the Stormtrac Doppler Radar is priceless. Even though she makes it look easy, using a green-screen is a difficult task, often requiring meteorological reporters to go through classes on how to make use of it. Well done, Kate!
