Visitors expecting to read about Broward GOP Chairman Rico Petrocelli’s latest misstep instead find themselves reading a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche, one of Adolph Hitler’s favorite philosophers. The person likely behind this cruel redirection is Sheela Venero Van Hoose, Director of Scheduling for Florida Governor Rick Scott. This type of cyber squatting, intended to harm the RED BROWARD brand, was sparked by our story regarding Petrocelli’s questionable maneuvers at last weekend’s RPOF Quarterly meetings in Orlando.
Even though she was not named in the original story, Ms. Van Hoose was the non-BREC member nominated by Petrocelli for a seat on a congressional district committee. After discovering Van Hoose was ineligible, RPOF were forced to table the vote. The move sparked outrage from RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day.
On Monday, Van Hoose voiced her displeasure with a not-so-vague Facebook post:
“Do you know what I can’t stand…bloggers with wrong facts. Geesh, if you are going to mention me in your posting…get the facts straight.”
Van Hoose and her “Not Your Average Campaign” company control the settings for the domain name.
Shortly after 7pm on Monday, the Red Broward website began to encounter technical issues. Moments later, the site was redirected to a website containing a quote from German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. A favorite of the German Nazi party, Nietzsche is famous for his “God is dead” diatribes against Christianity and Judiasm.
The site was then restored with a new header, “RED BROWARD=SHARK TANK”. Sources say Petrocelli, furious over negative coverage, has called BREC members over the last month equating this site with the Shark Tank blog which has been very critical of Petrocelli and former chairman Richard DeNapoli.
The Nietzsche site has been in place since 10pm Monday night.
Governor Scott’s office has not returned requests for comment. It’s hard to believe Scott and his senior staff were aware of this childish move.
Feel free to call Governor Scott and ask him (850) 488-7146
