The second debate of the Broward Republican Executive Committee chair hopefuls took place last night in Davie. The debate, hosted by the Davie/Cooper City Republican club President Jeff Rubinoff and Vice President David Brundage, was a well-run informative affair. Unfortunately, Christine Butler continues to be a major buzzkill with her lack of knowledge, halting speech and knack of mixing metaphors and generally saying the wrong thing.
In her opening remarks, Butler said running an organization like BREC was similar to “running an organization.” Who knew? Thanks Christine for clearing up that mystery.
Butler said she has stood “shoulder to shoulder” with BREC members “getting Congressmen elected.” Um, which ones? Last time we checked, Broward doesn’t have a Republican congressman let alone “congressmen”.
When asked if she had time to take on a full-time job like running BREC, Butler stated she did not believe running BREC was a full-time job. Once again, Butler expressed the desire to hire a full-time “professional executive director”. (Sorry Rico). Many fear her repeated mentions of hiring an executive director signal her intentions to hire Chad Lincoln, a Hallandale committeeman. Lincoln is a senior adviser to Butler. Several sources say Lincoln dominated a recent meeting of club presidents. One club president said Lincoln’s constant “harrumphing and bloviating” turned the Saturday meeting in a three hour marathon.
Butler said the executive director will help formulate a “structured command system”. She did not give specifics other than saying it would include the installation of “area captains”. Who exactly would be included in this new “command system”? Friends and supporters of Butler and Lincoln? Would this become a patronage system intended to keep one chairman in power for years? Look what a similar system did for Mitch Ceasar and the Broward Democrats. No thanks. We should seek to beat the Democrats at the polling place not emulate their dysfunctional organizations.
When it came to naming candidates she had supported, Butler named the biggies but was at a loss when trying to name local office seekers. She said she had supported Romney, Lamberti, Allen West, Robert Lowry, Gineen Bresso and “a lot of locals.” Uh huh.
Freedom of the Press was addressed once again. On Wednesday, Tom Truex slammed Butler’s proposed debate rules which would have severely limited media coverage and freedom of speech. Butler used the threat of RPOF sanctions for “disloyalty” if any BREC member dared to make fun of her. Pretty fascist thinking for a Republican and member of the bar. Oops is that mocking or deinigrating? If so, then grievance away. We’ll even call the guys the Patron uses to file those pesky grievances.
Last night Butler singled out “BREC bloggers” saying “with friends like these who needs enemies.” She said she need to invite the “real media” to meetings just to “get a fair shake.” Christine said “bloggers”, the plural form of blogger. As in more than one. Could she be referring to a former BREC blogger? Wonder what he advisers told her about that? We should share exactly what went down with that blogger.
Who wants to hear that story?
