Christine Butler won a landslide victory in the election for chair of the Broward Republican Executive Committee. On Monday evening, Butler and her slate of officers, (Bob Sutton, Celeste Ellich and Roger Gingerich) easily beat the competition to lead the Broward GOP. Butler replaces outgoing chairman Tom Truex.
Christine Butler received 116 votes from the 215 BREC members present. Self-proclaimed tea party leader Karin Hoffman was a distant second with 66 votes. Levi Williams, the handpicked choice of Chip LaMarca, barely made a dent in the race with just 33 votes. Even with his ties to Democrats like the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Williams was favored by the eastside Republican establishment.
Butler was endorsed by local leaders such as State Rep. George Moraitis and Plantation Councilman Jerry Fadgen.
In a speech to BREC members, Karin Hoffman recognized the role REDBROWARD played in her electoral defeat. Thanks for the kind words, Karin.
Butler promised the BREC would work to elect Republicans throughout Broward. She announced a “BREC Holiday Party” this Thursday at Cafe Del Mar on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
