Broward GOP Chairman Rico Petrocelli (P.I.) has sparked outrage (again) among local Republicans by endorsing a highly-controversial Plantation City Councilman. Late Saturday night, Petrocelli pleaded with his Facebook friends to vote for Democrat Doctor Robert “Bob” Levy. Petroelli posted, “Plantation Residents: Your Absentee Ballots have arrived! Please vote for Jerry Fadgen, Chris Zimmerman, and Bob Levy. If you need to know why I am supporting the above, email me @email@example.com…Thanks.Rico..”
Most Plantation Republicans despise “Doc Bob” Levy. The Plantation councilman is facing a strong challenge from Darren Badore, a Plantation professional. Some activists are so angry they’re going to contact Republican state leaders. But beyond the party label stuff, who in their right mind would endorse Levy?
Robert “Bob” Levy is the full-time city manager of the City of Pembroke Park. Like most Broward Democrats, Levy has a healthy government salary. According to published reports, Pembroke Park pays Levy $250,000 a year plus benefits. For his part-time job as Plantation City Councilman Levy earns a mere $30,000 a year.
Back in January 2012, Local 10 investigator Bob Norman confronted Levy over accusations he used city of Pembroke Park workers to perform menial tasks at his Plantation residence. Michael Soucy, former Chief Code Enforcement Officer for Pembroke Park, said he delivered couches to Levy’s home. These couches were supposed to be donated to the Women In Distress shelter. Instead, Levy told him there would be used by his dog because the couches were “due for the dumpster.” Soucy claims the delivery was made while he was “on the clock” with Pembroke Park. Levy told Norman he didn’t think it was a problem because Soucy had a truck. “[It} wasn’t anything I thought of as a problem. [He] did it on his own time as far as I know.”
When delivering the couches, Soucy said he spotted other city of Pembroke Park workers on Levy’s property. At first Levy told Norman this was “impossible.” Later, Levy admitted, ” a couple of times on a Saturday, I asked if someone wanted to get paid to do something. That’s all. On their own time. After hours. That was it.”
Soucy claims Levy used Pembroke Park workers at his election victory party at Deicke Auditorium in Plantation. Soucy said Pembroke Park workers set up the party by arranging trays, platters and tables. Levy told Norman Pembroke Park workers were invited and “some people when they got there volunteered to help.”
Levy used the patented “disgruntled worker” excuse to attack Soucy. Now hold on to your wigs and toupees! When asked by Norman if accusations were true, Levy said, “I can’t exactly remember what happened, so I can’t say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ at this point.”
Shouldn’t someone ask Rico Petrocelli, the newly elected chairman of the Broward Republican Executive Committee, why he wants his friends to vote for this guy?
Only in Broward.
