“Captain Loogie” wants to be the next Mayor of Fort Lauderdale. When Chris Brennan filed his campaign paperwork with the City of Fort Lauderdale, he wrote, “Chris ‘Captain Loogie’ Brennan.” In the space for the pronunciation of his name on the audio ballot, Brennan wrote, “Chris Capten Lou Gee Brennan.”
Brennan and Earl Rynerson (Fort Lauderdale’s version of Pat Paulsen) are challenging Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler.
“Captain Loogie” was later crossed out on Brennan’s paperwork.
So why “Captain Loogie?” Brennan told REDBROWARD he is widely-known as “Captain Loogie” on various social media platforms. He planned on running as Captain Loogie but the City Clerk said nicknames were not allowed. Brennan questioned why he could not used his nickname when Mayor Seiler uses his nickname, “Jack.”
Brennan, Rynerson and Mayor Seiler will face off during the February 10 primary. If no candidate receives fifty percent of the vote, the top two candidates will have a runoff on March 10, 2015. Mayor Seiler is an overwhelming favorite to win re-election.
