In April 2013, Carolyn P. Kennedy met with Broward Commissioner Dale Holness three times in the hopes of getting taxpayer dollars to fund her pet projects. Kennedy joined several Democrat activists in a concerted effort to get public funding for Haitian Cultural Month. Broward County Commission visitor logs show Kennedy met with Holness on April 5, April 12 and April 26. Kennedy represented the interests of HYDE (Haitian Youth Development and Education) and Gospelflagfest.org. Joining Kennedy in these lobbying efforts was Patrick Jabouin, former president of the Caribbean American Democratic Club of Broward County. Jabouin was recently hired by Broward Sheriff Scott Israel.
As Daily Broward reported, on April 23, 2013, Commissioner Chip LaMarca (R-?) voted for a motion made by Commissioner Dale Holness which called for $15,000 in taxpayer dollars to be allocated to the Community Access Center, Inc “in support of Haitian Cultural Heritage Month.” The taxpayers provided $1,700 worth of mailing and web site design services. The deal was so bad even Stacy Ritter (D-Brazen) called it “pork.” The Daily Broward also exposed how Holness sat on the board of the Community Access Center and how his campaign donors may have been helped by the deal.
(FUN FACT: The Community Access Center holds seminars to teach people how to push Obamacare on Broward residents.)
LaMarca and Holness have become close allies. Chip’s political guru even referred to them as “foxhole buddies” on Facebook. Holness is the guy who does not even live in his district.
Days later, Kennedy angrily confronted Daily Broward contributors at a Republican outreach event. Kennedy tried to defend wasting $16,700 of taxpaying dollars. She claimed the stories jeopardized Holness’ attempts to help her group. Well, boo-hoo Ms. Kennedy. That money was used on events that promoted Broward Mayor Barbara Sharief and Holness. These events did NOTHING to help the Broward GOP.
You may be saying, “so what?”
Despite these red flags, Chip LaMarca and his do-nothing crew want Kennedy to be the next secretary of the Broward Republican Party. Facebook is littered with a campaign mailer touting Kennedy for BREC Secretary. It claims Kennedy has been endorsed by LaMarca, RNC co-chair Sharon Day, BREC Chair Tom Truex, BREC Treasurer Mark McCarthy and others.
For some reason, the flyer includes the logos of The Rush Limbaugh Show, The RNC, BREC, Rick Scott For Florida, Rick Santorum for President and Herman Cain for President. Is Kennedy implying she’s been endorsed by these groups? That doesn’t sound right, does it?
Speaking of implications, Kennedy uses the slogan, “Inclusion…It’s Time!!!” which kinda implies the Broward GOP has been a racist good ol’ boys club. Really?
Maybe they mean “it’s time” to automatically give convicted felons the right to vote? Kennedy, a leader of the Florida Congress Of Racial Equality, hosted a 2007 “picnic with a purpose” in Dania Beach which featured felons rights restoration as its purpose.
Maybe the “inclusion” includes gay rights? Cara Pavalock, the former BREC secretary, faced recall attempts by angry BREC members over her support of fellow Republicans speaking out over the gay marriage ruling. LaMarca didn’t include himself when it came time to defend Pavalock. He skipped the BREC meeting to join Perry Thurston and Maria Sachs at a Wilton Manors Democrat rally hosted by local
political operative Michael Rajner.
In a Miami Herald story on Pavalock’s resignation, Kennedy said, ” I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. However, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don’t think as an organization we need to take a stand.”
Yep, there it is. “WE DON’T NEED TO TAKE A STAND.” That should be her campaign slogan. It should be Chip LaMarca’s campaign slogan. We’re in the mess we’re in because we never take a stand.
Waste taxpayer dollars on charities run by cronies? We say nothing.
Politicians violating the Constitution by not living in their districts? We say nothing.
Commissioners get funded by lobbyists to force another bad deal down our throats? We say nothing.
Commission aides committing voter fraud? We say nothing.
Corruption at every level of government? We say nothing.
The political insiders don’t want anybody rocking the boat. They’ve got a good thing going. The Democrats may run Broward, but the give a small piece to our Republican establishment.
The establishment hated former BREC chairman Richard DeNapoli because he wasn’t “one of them.” They don’t trust outsiders.
They don’t trust current chairman Tom Truex either. They’re already making plans for his replacement.
Yet for some reason, according to Facebook, Truex met with LaMarca, Sharon Day and Kennedy last Friday at the Sheraton Suites. Why?
The fix is in. They want Kennedy to be secretary. They don’t want chaos. They want to hold onto the scraps the Democrats throw them. They’re desperate to help LaMarca and Charlie Crist win in November.
Yes, Charlie Crist. You don’t really believe they’re behind Rick Scott, do you?
Tonight, ask questions. Don’t be fooled in the name of “outreach” or “inclusion.” The Republican message is a good one. Our messengers have been bad. Stop backing bad messengers.
