Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca (R-Really?) recently snubbed Broward’s grassroots Republicans and the popular vice chair of the Republican Party of Florida for a chance to grab more campaign cash from special interests and Democrat lobbyists. On Monday, June 24, LaMarca held his first fundraiser at the highly-snooty Cafe Maxx. The Pompano Beach eatery offers Tuna Sashimi Pizza with wasabi cream cheese, sweet soy & tobiko caviar, Asian Beef Tenderloin Sashimi with Foie Gras (only $47.00!!) and the Herb Grilled Pheasant (Chardonnay jus, white bean mash, wild mushrooms, & brunoise summer vegetables) is a bargain at just 45 bucks.
Meanwhile, just a few miles away, grassroots Republicans gathered at the Sheraton Suites off I-95 for the monthly meeting of the Broward Republican Executive Committee. On the menu, all you can drink water. LaMarca was a no-show. Even worse, just before the meeting, several local Republicans hosted a fundraiser for RPOF vice chair Blaise Ingolgia. The well-liked Ingoglia is running for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives.
Perhaps LaMarca thinks all those rabble-rousing grassroots Republicans are beneath him?
But LaMarca has no problem taking contributions from Democrat lobbyists and their special interests.
LaMarca’s campaign just announced it raised little more than $20,000 for his District 4 race. Chip got $500 bucks from two companies tied to his campaign treasurer Dev Motwani. This is the same beach developer that helped Debbie Wasserman Schultz’ favorite Congressman, Patrick Murphy, beat Allen West.
Chip accepted $500 from the Democrat law firm Becker Poliakoff, which does extensive lobbying before the Broward County Commission.
LaMarca even had the nerve to take $500 from LSN Partners, a lobbying firm run by Obama bundler Alexander Heckler. As a bundler, Heckler raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for President Barack Obama. Another member of the LSN Partners team is Ben Pollara. The Tampa Bay Times said, Pollara was a “young Turk in fundraising circles with a Rolodex full of political contacts. Pollara was Hillary Clinton’s paid Florida finance director in 2007 and 2008, helping raise more than $12 million for her. He also served as co-finance director for Alex Sink’s campaigns for chief financial officer and governor, and worked for Bill Nelson’s 2006 Senate campaign.”
So, Chip LaMarca can’t spend a couple of hours with BREC Chairman Tom Truex, Blaise Ingolgia and Republican volunteers, but he can take cash from the guys who worked hard for Obama, Hillary and Alex Sink?
Let’s hope the guys at the RNC and Florida Governor Rick Scott read this and realizeTeam Chip has the wrong kind of friends.
