In a speech at Saturday’s Broward Democrat Unity Dinner in Coral Springs, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Out of Touch) made it clear beating Governor Rick Scott was her main goal for 2014. While taking the stage, Wasserman Schultz told the subdued crowd, “I want everybody standing up!” The DNC chair asked, “Through what county are we going to send Rick Scott packing?” The crowd’s rather listless reply was “Broward!”
DWS said, “That’s right, because we know how to turn out the vote! We know how to knock on the doors. We know how to make the phone calls. We know how to make sure that from Pensacola down to Key West, people understand the Democratic party is the natural home for voters who care about making sure we have an opportunity to build lives for the middle class. Making sure that everybody who wants to has an opportunity to succeed. Not just the people who are already successful. Are you with me Broward?”
Wasserman Schultz mocked Republicans for trying to refine their message to voters. She claimed Republicans hired “trainers to teach Republicans how to talk to women and hispanics.” Wasserman Schultz said the GOP’s problem isn’t messaging but rather Republican policies.
Wasserman Schultz said the Florida Governor’s race was “critical to our country.” She claimed Rick Scott was “wrong on every issue that matters to Floridians.” She sidestepped the battle for the Democratic nomination for Governor between Charlie Crist (D-Ponzi!) and former State Senator Nan Rich. Crist skipped the Unity Dinner while Rich was one the evening’s featured speakers.
DWS said, “No matter who our nominee is Democrats will be ready, and Broward will be ready, won’t we?” She finished her speech with the battlecry, “The road to Rick Scott’s retirement goes right through Broward county!”
