Controversial Plantation Democrat councilman Robert A. Levy is employing the same New Jersey based consultants used by Miami Republican Alex Diaz De La Portilla and Plantation’s own State Representative Katie Edwards. Campaign treasurers reports filed with the City of Plantation show “Doc Bob” Levy paid $2,250.00 to Cornerstone Management Partners on January 22, 2013. The payment to the Bergenfield, New Jersey outfit was in exchange for “campaign managment”. Plantation insiders say fellow Democrat, State Rep. Edwards is playing a key role in Levy’s “campaign management” as well.
Florida Division of Elections records list more than $412,000 in payments to Cornerstone during the 2012 general election. Edwards paid them $3,000 on November 2, 2012. Republican State Rep. Erik Fresen of Miami gave Cornerstone $2,000 in May 2011. The rest of the payments came from political action committees. Citizens Desiring Accountable Government, lead by former Miami Republican State Rep. Alex Diaz De La Portilla, paid $45,000. Cornerstone received $266,100 from Conservatives for Florida. The Foundation For Conservative Values, lead by Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, gave $12,000 to Cornerstone. Floridians For A Strong 67, lead by Fresen, gave $1,500 in August 2012.
In 2011 Cornerstone was tied to vicious robocalls attacking Miami mayoral candidate Julio Robaina. The Miami Herald reported on a complaint filed against Cornerstone. “‘There’s much more here than an election violation,’ said Jose ‘Pepe’ Herrera, the lawyer who filed the complaint on behalf of Robaina’s campaign.”
Why would two Plantation Democrats like Levy and Edwards be associated with groups closely tied to Republicans in Miami’s Cuban community?
Perhaps someone should call for the Return of the Jedi. Oh wait, Scott Cowan is already getting paid by the Jepatha Holness and Pete Tingom campaigns.
