A Tampa-based political committee has launched another commercial exposing State Senator Maria Sachs’ ethical and legal violations. Floridians For Integrity In Government posted “Ethics” on the FactsAboutSachs.com website. Last month, the same committee released a television commercial featuring average citizens asking why Sachs does not live in her Senate District.
According to Section 15, Article III of the Florida Constitution, Sachs needed to be a resident of district 34 as of November 6, 2012.In April 2013, this reporter exposed Sachs’ claim to live in lobbyist Judy Stern’s Fort lauderdale was not true. Later, undercover footage showed Sachs living at her million dollar equestrian estate in Boca Raton. The commercial includes footage of residents, “discussing important questions that continue to surround State Senator Maria Sachs, and why Sachs doesn’t just tell the truth.”
In the new commercial, the female narrator states Sachs is “violating the [Florida] Constitution by not living in the district.” The narrator says the Florida Ethics Commission found probable cause that Sachs, “violated the law for failing to list assets on her financial disclosure documents.” Also, the narrator mentions Sachs failed to disclose her ties to a political committee.
The commercial features headlines from local stories about Sachs’ legal lapses. “Criminal Complaint Filed Against Senator Maria Sachs For Lying” comes from a July 2013 BrowardBeat.com story. The headline from the Palm Beach Post reads, “Voters of District 34….Deserve The Truth.” Another graphic illustrates Sachs’ Florida Senate reprimand for ethics violations.
The narrator asks voters to “Call Maria Sachs. Ask Her For The Truth.”
We have. Maria Sachs never answers. At a Sun-Sentinel editorial meeting this week, Sachs said the stories regarding her residency are “flim flam.”
Sachs faces a very strong challenge from Ellyn Bogdanoff in November.
