It seems the once darling of the DNC, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is falling out of favor, or more precisely, making herself very unpopular. From her campaign jumping between Hillary and Obama, to her petulant demands to have the Democratic National Committee foot the bill for her wardrobe, to her pushy pitches to donors for contributions to her own PAC – The DWS PAC (standing for Democrats Win Seats, according to Debbie Wasserman Schultz… yeah, and if you believe that, there’s a bridge in Brooklyn for sale…). All these are pointed out in stark detail by Edward-Issac Dovere in his recent Politico article. It’s definitely an interesting read.
It seems though that the vanity of Ms. Wasserman Schultz is not limited to the national political scene, but comes home to roost right here in Broward County, with the recent opening of the new runway at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on the 18th of September. You see, Debbie was not originally supposed to speak at the Grand Opening Ceremony for the South Runway… In fact, she was not even invited. Don’t just take my word for it, have a look at the program for the ceremony, where Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s name is conspicuous by it’s absence. Click the image for a closer look.
The long and arduous battle for the expansion to the airport has gone on for 26 years, and while we at the Daily Broward have raised questions about various decisions in FLL’s growth, there can be no doubt that the struggle has been largely championed by the Broward County Commissioners throughout that time period. The spotlight rightfully belonged to those who have steadfastly fought for the expansion, but it was a spotlight, and Debbie wanted it.
According to our excellent and daring sources in Broward government, a call was placed from Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s staff, demanding that she be permitted to attend, and further that time be allotted for her to speak. In typical fashion, Debbie wanted to take the very public victory lap for a race she had never run.
Given how often she is flying away from Broward County, there can’t be much doubt that Wasserman Schultz will benefit from the new airport expansion, and will use that benefit to further her own agenda and her own interests. Those things that apparently matter most to Debbie, because they are for her. If it puts her in the spotlight, Debbie does it. Perhaps it’s time that the attention went to those that honestly deserve it. At least, that’s the way that I see it… hopefully you do to.
