A hastily arranged fundraising event with Florida Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll is setting off alarm bells among Broward Republican activists. The luncheon, scheduled for Tuesday February 5th in Coral Springs, is hosted by the Republican Business Network. An email sent to members of the Broward Republican Executive Committtee urges them to purchase $65 tickets immediately because seating is “EXTREMELY” limited
Sources tell RED BROWARD the first mention of Lt Gov. Carroll’s south Florida visit was made at a recent club presidents meeting by Broward GOP chairman Rico Petrocelli, P.I. According to a source, Petrocelli stated the Lt. Governor would be flying out of a Broward airport and her staff hoped volunteers would be on hand to create a media opportunity. Club presidents were urged to gather volunteers for the airport send off. There was no mention of a luncheon event with a $65 price tag.
No mention of the Lt. Governor luncheon was made at Monday’s Broward Republican Executive Committee meeting in Fort Lauderdale. The sparse crowd of 148 did get confirmation of Petrocelli’s plan to give commissions on money raised by Broward GOP clubs. As RED BROWARD previously reported in the Daily Broward, Petocelli stated if clubs raised $1000 for BREC they would receive $200-250 in commission.
Petrocelli also announced a BREC Business Directory. Businesses would pay $100 to be placed in the directory and ads would be featured on the BREC website. Committeemen and women were shocked by the proposal as it has the potential to undercut the Republican Business Network. Some were surprised that new RBN president Ginger Eisenrod wasn’t concerned with the Petrocelli plan.
Now, we have the RBN hosting the Lt Governor of Florida. Why isn’t BREC hosting this event? Is the RBN shelling out big bucks for the hall rental and food? What if attendance is low? Will the RBN be responsible?
Some wonder why other clubs are not involved. Questions are being raised if RBN president Eisenrod is even a member of BREC.
Also, unlike the BREC, the financial records of the RBN are not public. Will we ever know how much is raised by this event? How much is RBN going to give BREC? Will any outside “consultants” be paid from this event?
The Governor and Lt. Governor and their staffs need to make some phone calls. First, Sheela Venero Van Hoose, an aide to Governor Scott, censors RED BROWARD over negative news coverage. Now Lt. Governor Carroll is dropped into a shadowy financial situation.
