Last week, Christine Timmon became an official member of the Broward Republican Executive Committee. This week, Timmon is running as an Independent against Broward’s only Republican member of the Florida House. In paperwork filed today, Timmon entered the House 93 race against Rep George Moraitis (R-Fort Lauderdale). Moraitis is being challenged by Scott Herman another BREC regular-turned-Democrat.
So what the heck is going on? Earlier this week, the Sun-Sentinel mentioned Timmon would be entering the House 94 currently occupied by Florida Constitution scofflaw Perry Thurston. Did Timmon make a mistake?
Timmon has quite the flamboyant record. She has appeared at hundreds of public forums between Broward and Michigan. She made liberal headlines last year when she criticized Marco Rubio’s stance on immigration. These days, Timmon rails against the unconstitutionality of Obamacare and Immigration.
Why on Earth did BREC let Timmon join their ranks? Oh, that’s right, Vice Chair Christine Butler is in charge of vetting new members.
Cue the sad trombone music.
Here’s the fun part. On December 18th, Moraitis will be the guest of honor at the BREC Holiday Party. Let’s hope Butler doesn’t introduce him.
Attempts to contact Timmon were unsuccessful.
