Do you think the Broward Republican Executive Committee needs “unity”? Do you want paid consultants like Michael George DeGruccio to keep roaming BREC HQ and attending BREC board meetings? Do you think the questions raised about Rico Petrocelli’s commission scheme, his private investigation firm, and his lack of transparency on financial matters were topics that should have never seen the light of day? Do you wish Rico and DeGruccio and Benjamin Bennett still had offices at the party headquarters? Do you think plans to get non-BREC member Sheela Venero VanHoose on an important committee instead of a BREC member is hunky dory? Do you think we should dump our rules just to Sheela back on the committee?
Well heck! Forget about voting for a new chair, just name State Committeewoman Sharon Day as our new supreme leader. Day is already the de-facto leader of the Broward Do-Nothing Establishment. She serves on the Housing Authority with Rico Petrocelli ( although she rarely shows up for meetings). Day and Petrocelli were nominated by turnocat Charlie Crist. It appears Petrocelli’s disastrous reign as BREC chair was not the first time he worked so closely with Day. Remember this story:
“Another housing authority board member is Sharon Day, a Crist favorite who’s currently the secretary of the National Republican Committee and who was among the high-profile figures to demand that
the investigation into Cobo’s ethics violations at the hospital district be swept under the rug. And the attorney who was appointed to the hospital district just in time to agree with the recommendation of Day and other high-profile Republicans? That would be Sam Goren, whose firm just happens to also act as general counsel for the housing authority.
Isn’t it sweet how Crist — and his Broward-based inner circle — take care of the most loyal Republicans, ethical baggage or not? And how those Republicans then take care of each other?”
Yes, it is very sweet. And Petrocelli and Day were taking care of each other. Not us. Each other.
They laugh at most of us. They think we do not matter. They hold their noses when we talk about kitchen table issues affecting our families, our communities and our nation. How many street corners did Sharon Day stand on last year? How many neighborhoods did she walk? How many phone banks? She did not support local candidates. Oh no, they don’t want to upset the folks that really control our county. They still want to get invites to local galas and events.
And now those Crist loyalists are kissing the Governor’s rear end in hopes he will reappoint them to the committees.
So, if that’s what you want just call for the coronation of Sharon Day. Or better yet, wait for the candidate to emerge who touts the support of Day. That will be the shill, the puppet, the business as usual stooge.
The one with the support of Day & the Do-Nothing Establishment will call for unity. Really? We need “unity”? To the Broward Do-Nothing Establishment, unity means “shut up. sit down. Don’t rock the boat.”
We were unified last year. We made those phone calls. We walked those neighborhoods. We spread the word at early voting sites even when Obama supporters shouted us down. Where was the Do-Nothing Establishment?
The choice is up to you.
Business as usual? Or take the bold step to regain control of our party?
We report. You decide.
